“Another Gospel”
Why are you and I to be alert, searching Scripture and comparing what we hear and read with God’s true word? Is it not so we won’t be misled or mislead others?
We need to be discerning and compare people’s words with God’s word – the Holy Bible. [Please, always, compare what is written in this devotional to God’s word…for His words are true and trustworthy.] When people are talking about God’s word it is important to check it against Scripture.
Your words and mine are here today and gone tomorrow.
But God’s word …
(NIV) Psalm 119:89 “Your word, O LORD, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens.”
When anyone adds or deletes words from the Holy Bible – distortion of the Gospel of Christ occurs.
The consequences to those who preach “another” gospel are to be accursed. God gives warning to anyone who preaches a gospel contrary to His inerrant, infallible word.
(NASB) Galatians 1:6-9 “I am amazed that you are so quickly deserting Him who called you by the grace of Christ, for a different gospel;
7 which is really not another; only there are some who are disturbing you and want to distort the gospel of Christ.
8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, he is to be accursed!
9 As we have said before, so I say again now, if any man is preaching to you a gospel contrary to what you received, he is to be accursed!”
If we believe or tell others a distorted biblical teaching, what are we actually doing? We are deserting the Lord Jesus who called us by His grace (unmerited favor) for a different gospel. (See Galatians 1:6)
It is the Lord Jesus Christ Who set His face toward Jerusalem to suffer, be crucified, buried and resurrected Who is being deserted.
My friends, followers of Christ are to seek God’s favor, not people’s good approval.
(Amplified) Galatians 1:10 “Now am I trying to win the favor of men, or of God? Do I seek to please men? If I were still seeking popularity with men, I should not be a bond servant of Christ (the Messiah).”
