Peter’s Brokenness
Today, in many countries, Christians are being pressured (threatened, ostracized, persecuted, tortured, burned out of house and home, etc.) to deny Christ as their Savior. Peter would know what that pressure is like…because he denied Christ on the night Jesus was being betrayed (See Luke 22:54-62). Jesus was not surprised by Peter’s denials, He said it would happen. (See Luke 22:31-34)
What was the outcome for Peter? He had remorse (regrets) but more importantly he repented of his words of denial. Peter’s denials led to his broken heartedness and repentance.
(NASB) Luke 22:61-62 “The Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had told him, ‘Before a rooster crows today, you will deny Me three times.
62 And he went out and wept bitterly.”
Jesus also gave Peter specific instructions that after his denials he would turn back to God and then he was to strengthen his brothers.
My friend, it is Jesus Who strengthens His followers, to have the ability to strengthen others in hard and dangerous circumstances. Jesus desires to strengthen you in the pressures of your life.
Peter’s brokenness led to his repentance, he was forgiven and reinstated by the resurrected Lord Jesus Christ (See John 21:18-19).
How are you being pressured today to deny the Lord Jesus?
How will you now respond to Him?
