Jesus’ Last Instructions and Ascension
Jesus gathered His eleven disciples (Judas Iscariot had committed suicide on the day of Jesus’ crucifixion – See Matthew 27:3-5). Some of the last words Jesus spoke to these men are recorded in the four Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John as well as Acts.
(NASB) Acts 1:8-11 “… ‘but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.’
9 And after He had said these things, He was lifted up while they were looking on, and a cloud received Him out of their sight.
10 And as they were gazing intently into the sky while He was going, behold, two men in white clothing stood beside them.
11 They also said, ‘Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven.’ ”
Jesus has given His instructions:
1. You have received the Holy Spirit when you believed Jesus as your Savior.
2. You are to be a witness to Jesus Christ in your home, your neighborhood, your city, your country and to the furthest corners of the world.
3. You are to live as if Jesus could return for you today, for He could!
4. Who do you need to tell about Jesus?
