As Jesus hung on the cross, onlookers scoffed and sneered at Him, and they fulfilled the prophecy of Psalm 22:7-8.

Prophecy
(NASB) Psalm 22:7-8 “All who see me sneer at me;
They separate with the lip, they wag the head…”

Prophecy Fulfilled
(NASB) Luke 23:35-38 “And the people stood by, looking on.  And even the rulers were sneering at Him, saying, ‘He saved others; let Him save Himself if this is the Christ of God, His Chosen One.’ ”

Jesus had yielded to His Father’s will in the Garden of Gethsemane (See Matthew 26:42).  And yes, Jesus was the Christ (Messiah) of God, His Chosen One.  Why didn’t He save Himself from such scoffing and such a cruel death?

Jesus endured sneering contempt of Himself … for you.
Jesus endured sneering contempt of Himself … for those who need His forgiveness through faith in Him.
Jesus endured the suffering, shame, and sneering contempt of people like you and me.
Perhaps you think or say, I haven’t caused Jesus’ suffering or shame or have ever sneered at Him with contempt.
Have you ever talked about anyone with condescension or with a condemning attitude?

Jesus fulfilled the words of prophecy concerning Messiah found in the Torah of the Jews and the Old Testament of the Gentiles.

If you have believed in Jesus as your Savior, have you thanked Him (the Resurrected Lord) for enduring such sneering contempt for you?
