Jesus chose Peter, James and John to go up a mountain to pray.  The three disciples fell asleep on that mountain.  When they woke up they saw Jesus transfigured; His face became different, His clothing became dazzling white as if shot through with the brightness of lightning…Jesus’ glorious majesty was blazingly revealed to these three men.  With Jesus stood Moses and Elijah…

(NASB) Luke 9:31 “…appearing in glory, were speaking of His departure which He was about to accomplish at Jerusalem.”

Jesus’ departure?  I believe the departure they were speaking of was Jesus’ departure after His death, burial, and resurrection.  He was going to go back to heaven, from where He had come.

As Jesus stood on that mountain in His splendor and glory, a cloud enveloped this group of men.  Then the voice of God the Father said:
(NASB) Luke 9:35 “…This is My Son, My Chosen One; listen to Him!”

Jesus, chosen of God to obtain salvation for sinners.  There is no one else!  Jesus accomplished your salvation and mine at Jerusalem, on the altar of the cross.

The transfiguration of Jesus was preparation

to accomplish His mission at Jerusalem.

As Easter is 3 ½ weeks away…consider what Jesus, the gloriously majestic Jesus, accomplished for you at Jerusalem.
