Pride
(NIV) 1 Corinthians 13:4 “Love…is not proud.”
(NASB) 1 Corinthians 13:4 “Love…is not arrogant.”
(Amplified) 1 Corinthians 13:4 “Love…does display itself haughtily.”
Listen to people, watch their body language and facial features…pride and arrogance can be heard in a tone of voice, in the words chosen to speak. Haughtiness looks down on others as ‘lesser mortals’.
Others are listening…to you…what do you show them through your speech, words and actions?
The One person who could have rightfully displayed pride, arrogance and haughtiness…did not. The King of kings and Lord of lords, the Son of God came in humility and out of love for you.
(NASB) Philippians 2:5-8 “Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus,
6 who although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped,
7 but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bondservant, and being made in the likeness of men.
8 Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.”
The followers of Christ are to have the same attitude as our Savior did…humility (yielded to God) and obedience (to God’s word and will).
The attitude which pleases God is humility
followed by obedience to Him.
