The Dilemma of Conflict Within
What causes conflict in your life? Do you want to please God and to please yourself? What does God’s word say about this dilemma, this conflict?
(NASB) Galatians 5:16-18 “But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.
17 For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please.
18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law.”
The sinful nature (that which we were born with) desires what is in opposition to the Spirit of God. Conflict! for those who are followers of Christ. For we have been given the Holy Spirit when we intentionally asked Jesus to be our Savior. Think about that!
All followers of Christ have the Spirit of God living within.
But we still have that old nature which wants its way, when it wants it and how it wants it. Conflict within!
Being a Christian, a follower of Christ, is sacrificial. We yield to God Himself and to do this, we sacrifice our own desires.
We do have a dilemma, the Law gives specifics which are impossible to meet from our perspective as people…but there is freedom through salvation because Jesus Christ has met all the Law requirements for us.
It is God Who has provided the way out of the bondage of conflict into freedom through His Son. That is freedom and protection indeed!
The answer to the Dilemma of Conflict Within:
(Amplified) Galatians 5:16-18 “But I say, walk and live [habitually] in the [Holy] Spirit [responsive to and controlled and guided by the Spirit]; then you will certainly not gratify the cravings and desires of the flesh (of human nature without God).
17For the desires of the flesh are opposed to the [Holy] Spirit, and the [desires of the] Spirit are opposed to the flesh (godless human nature); for these are antagonistic to each other [continually withstanding and in conflict with each other], so that you are not free but are prevented from doing what you desire to do.
18But if you are guided (led) by the [Holy] Spirit, you are not subject to the Law.”
