What sign of God was given in the Old Testament and fulfilled in the New Testament?

Hundreds of years before Jesus Christ was born to a virgin in Bethlehem, a prophet by the name of Isaiah foretold of His birth.

(NASB) Isaiah 7:14 “Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel.”

This sign of God was fulfilled in Nazareth – the virgin Mary conceived a baby by the Holy Spirit (See Matthew 1:20)

This sign of God was fulfilled at the birth of the baby boy in Bethlehem.  (See Matthew 2:1)

This sign of God was fulfilled by Joseph, the husband of Mary when he named the baby Jesus as he was told to do by an angel of the Lord.  (See Matthew 1:25)

This sign of God was fulfilled when baby Jesus was called Immanuel. (See Matthew 1:23)

How does any of this information affect you?  For one thing it reveals God’s character: He is All-knowing, He has power to fulfill His words.  Jesus Christ has come to save you from your sins (that is what the name of Jesus means).  Jesus Christ is God the Son, therefore He is God.  His name, Immanuel – means God with us.

Do you need some good news today?  Well here it is!

Those who believe that Jesus died for their sins and believe that He was raised to life after dying on the cross – are saved from the power and penalty of their sins.  What is more – and there is more: He is Immanuel, God with us!

Whatever your circumstances, whatever your sins, you also can be “saved” from the power and the penalty of your sins.

You can have Immanuel as your Savior in your circumstances.

God gave a sign – and the sign was Jesus born of a virgin.
