Why does anyone need God’s power according to His glorious might?

(NIV) Colossians 1:10-12 “And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, 11being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully 12giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light.”

Why do we need God’s power according to His glorious might?

The letter to the Colossians states: “so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully 12giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light.”

  1.  So we will have great endurance – whatever our circumstances, at some point we all need to run a marathon (the race that requires endurance to get to the finish line).

  2.  So we will have patience – in today’s instant-gratification world many times we do not exhibit patience, and God calls us to be patient (it takes God’s power according to His glorious might to exhibit patience)

  3.  So we will joyfully give thanks to the Father – why are we to joyfully give thanks?  Because God the Father has qualified the followers of Christ “to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light.”

We are to look to God and His power…no matter what the world or our circumstances ‘look like’ today.
God has given us His Holy Spirit and His power to live in the way which pleases Him!

We need God’s power!
