Messiah Promised
As Jesus walked with two people on the road to Emmaus.
(NASB) Luke 24:27 “Then beginning with Moses and with all the prophets, He explained to them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures.”
Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy are the first five books of the Bible…the Pentateuch. These books are attributed to Moses by many scholars. And Jesus explained many Scriptures…we will consider only a very few in this devotional.
Immediately after the first sin in the Garden of Eden – God Himself promised Adam and Eve…Messiah would destroy Satan.
Amplified Genesis 3:15 “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her Offspring; He will bruise and tread your head underfoot, and you will lie in wait and bruise His heel.
And this was fulfilled when Jesus went to the cross and was then resurrected. He overcame, defeated, “tread” the head of Satan underfoot. And Satan had “bruised” Jesus’ heel when He was nailed to the cross.
What is one of the things we can learn from this promise of Messiah? In the book of Hebrews it speaks of Jesus, the Christ, Messiah:
(NASB) Hebrews 2:14-15 “Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil,
15 and might free those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives.”
Christ Jesus was born of a woman. He came to share in our humanity so that He could destroy Satan. Satan has the “power of death”. Christ Jesus has the power of life! And Jesus came to free you and me from the fear of death.
(NIV) Psalm 68:19-20 “Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens.
20Our God is a God who saves; from the Sovereign Lord comes escape from death.”
