(NASB) Luke 24:13-14 “And behold, two of them were going that very day to a village named Emmaus, which was about seven miles (about 11 km) from Jerusalem.
14 And they were talking with each other about all these things which had taken place.”

Events beyond imagination had occurred and these two people were talking about what had happened to Jesus: His death and the events around His crucifixion.

What has occurred in your country which you discuss with your friends? Politics affect everyone. So do cataclysmic events of nature as well as threats and violence from a country’s enemies. Or perhaps disappointments in leaders, such as these two people had experienced with the death of Jesus…the One Whom they had hoped (and believed) would free them from Roman rule.

How discouraged these two must have been, along with the disciples who were in hiding in Jerusalem.
What has disappointed you and given you heart-rending discouragement?
How are followers of Christ to go through days that seem to be without hope due to circumstances and people?
We have knowledge that these two people did not have as they walked that day on the road to Emmaus. We have the knowledge of the resurrected Jesus, the living God and Savior of all followers of Christ.
(NASB) 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 “Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day.
17 For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of
glory far beyond all comparison,
18 while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.”

Where do you place your focus and expectation?

Is your prayer: “Lord God be Thou my vision!”?
