(NASB) Matthew 27:54 “Now the centurion, and those who were with him keeping guard over Jesus, when they saw the earthquake and the things that were happening, became very frightened and said, “˜Truly this was the Son of God!”™”

The Roman guards and the centurion felt the earth move under their feet.

They had experienced that unnatural darkness which had covered the land for three hours and they had heard Jesus”™ words and His loud voice: “˜It is finished!”™ and “˜Into Your hands I commit My spirit.”™ These experienced executioners had seen Him die.

After all of this, this centurion was terrified. In his terror and fright he acknowledged the unusual events in the death of Jesus and exclaimed, “˜Truly this was the Son of God!”™ Even the unbelieving Roman centurion proclaimed Jesus as the Son of God!

Truth: Jesus is the Son of God!

How are we to think of what is happening in our world today? Events are happening which are beyond our ability to control, just as the centurion experienced events which were beyond his control. Scripture was fulfilled then and Scripture is being fulfilled as history is being made, even today.

Truth: Jesus is the Son of God who died on a cross in order to fulfill His Father”™s will; to save any who believe in His sacrificial death for them and to fulfill prophecy.

To the centurion, Jesus was a common criminal, a ‘job’ to be done. The centurion was terrified by the events he experienced and reached the conclusion that Jesus was Who He said He was”¦the Son of God.

There are people today who say Jesus is ‘a’ way (meaning, not THE way); people recognize Him as a great prophet/teacher; a good example to follow; and the list goes on. What will it take for them to see the Truth and say, ‘Truly, this is the Son of God!’

As you experience the out-of-control events of today”¦how are you handling them? Does God have any part in your thinking process? Who is Jesus Christ to you?
