Jesus had loudly cried out to God from the cross:

(NASB) Matthew 27:46 “About the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “˜ELI, ELI, LAMA SABACHTHANI?”™ that is, “˜MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?”™”

Consider the crowd watching His death:

(NASB) Matthew 27:47-49 “And some of those who were standing there, when they heard it, began saying, “˜This man is calling for Elijah.”™

48 Immediately one of them ran, and taking a sponge, he filled it with sour wine and put it on a reed, and gave Him a drink.

49 but the rest of them said, “˜Let us see whether Elijah will come to save Him.”™”

Many in the crowd misunderstood Jesus”™ loud cry of anguish. They seem to have had no concern for Jesus”™ agony or pain”¦

These people appear to have had no concept of the miracle of Jesus”™ cry fulfilling prophecy (Psalm 22:1).

They were separated from God and did not know it.

Are you separated from God?

Questions to consider:

Who do you know who has no concern or concept of their separation from God?

Who do you know who does not understand the importance of knowing Jesus as their Savior?

How do you pray for that person? How do you interact with that person?

[Tomorrow”™s devotional will follow up with these ideas on a personal level.]
