No matter the cost”¦
Simon Peter had pulled a sword in defense of Jesus when He was seized in the Garden of Gethsemane. Jesus rebuked him and protected him at the same time”¦Jesus healed the servant”™s ear (See Luke 22:51).
Then Jesus said something that was very interesting and shows His personal authority and power, and obedience to His Father, no matter the cost to Him personally:
(NASB) Matthew 26:53-54 “Or do you think that I cannot appeal to My Father, and He will at once put at My disposal more than twelve legions of angels?
54 “˜How then will the Scriptures be fulfilled, which say that it must happen this way?”™”
Twelve legions of angels”¦wow! A Roman legion was made up of 6,000 men. And Jesus said over twelve legions of angels could be sent in His behalf”¦to fight for Him. That is over 72,000!!!
Jesus did not need Simon Peter”™s paltry sword to defend Him”¦Jesus could have had the army of heaven.
Then Jesus asked a question”¦”How then will the Scriptures be fulfilled, which say that it must happen this way?”
Jesus”™ focus was on God”™s will”¦Jesus”™ focus was on fulfilling Scripture. And that meant He would go to the cross, die, be buried and then”¦then be gloriously resurrected to life.
Jesus could certainly have made it easier on Himself”¦don”™t we try to make things as easy as possible on ourselves? We pray and ask for an easier life so we don”™t need to go through pain-filled solutions. Life is not about ease and comfort is it? As a follower of Christ, life sometimes means we need to let go of our “˜wants”™ and latch onto what God says is for our best.
What is your goal in your life for this day,
no matter the cost?
