The Certainty of Jesus”™ Words
Jesus prayed to His Father His High Priestly prayer on the night before His betrayal by Judas Iscariot. In that prayer He said:
(NASB) John 17:7-8 “Now they [the eleven disciples] have come to know that everything You have given Me is from You;
8 for the words which You gave Me I have given to them; and they received them and truly understood that I came forth from You, and they believed that you sent Me.”
What did these eleven men know with certainty?
1-that everything given to Jesus came from the Father ““ and from no other source.
2- the words the Father had given to Jesus, Jesus gave to these men
3-these eleven men received those words of Jesus
4- these men understood that Jesus came from the Father
5- these men believed that the Father sent Jesus
Did these eleven men understand everything Jesus said? No. Not long before Jesus had prayed this prayer they had expressed their inability to understand what He was saying to them. (NASB) John 16:18 “So they [the eleven disciples] were saying, “˜What is this that He says”¦We do not know what He is talking about.”™”
Jesus prayed with certainty for what these men knew and what they had firmly come to believe. (See the above list)
Your certainty of belief is to be in Christ Jesus”™ words. His words, all of them, are true. Do you understand everything He said? I don”™t either. But one day we who know Jesus personally will understand when we see Him face to face.
Just think:
(NASB) Revelation 22:1-5 “THEN HE showed me a river of the water of life, clear as crystal, coming from the throne of God and of the Lamb,
2 in the middle of the street. On either side of the river was the tree of life, bearing twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit every month; and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.
3 There will no longer be any curse; and the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and His bond-servants will serve Him;
4 they will see His face, and His name will be on their foreheads.
5 And there will no longer be any night; and they will not have need of the light of a lamp nor the light of the sun, because the Lord God will illumine them; and they will reign forever and ever.”
You also can know with certainty
that what Jesus says is true and that He came from the Father.
Followers of Christ can be certain in their faith in the living God.
