Jesus had a special prayer (identified as the High Priestly prayer) before He was arrested and sentenced to die on the cross. He prayed:

(NASB) John 17:4 “I glorified You on the earth, having accomplished the work which You have given Me to do.”

The dictionary defines “˜glory”™ as: “exalted honor or praise”. Jesus brought His Father “˜exalted honor and praise”™ when He accomplished the work for which He was sent to earth. Jesus”™ prayer was stated in the past tense”¦as if it had already been done. What “˜work”™ was this? What “˜work”™ had not yet been done but Jesus spoke as if it were a done deal?

Jesus had not yet gone to the cross where His work would be finished. Yet, He prayed as if His work was completed.

Where God is at work ~

there His word is fulfilled,

there His work is finished.

Whatever “˜work”™ God has for you to be doing”¦it can only be done, begun and finished, through the strength of Christ”™s finished work on the cross.

It truly is not about you! It is all about the Lord Jesus Christ.

There is no room for arrogance, assumptions, or assigning yourself an A+ in your “˜wonderful”™ work ““ whatever that may be.

You and I have not gone to the cross to die for our own sins or the sins of anyone else. We cannot go to the cross of sacrifice in our own names ““ God would not be able to look at us (for He alone is pure, holy and without sin).

We need Jesus and His work on the cross in our place. Jesus has finished His work and we are recipients of His finished work.

IF we have received Jesus as our Savior and Lord”¦

THEN we are recipients of eternal life.

To God alone be the glory!

Praise and Honor and Glory belong to our God!
