The Peace of God
Biographies of followers of Christ Jesus attest to “˜real life”™ people who keep their thoughts, hearts, words and actions fixed on the Lord. And God gives them His peace. No matter if their circumstances are depressing or even dire, their faith remains in Christ Jesus.
Faith based on emotions will not be enough when troubles erupt into our lives. But faith built on the foundation of Christ Jesus as Lord and Savior will prove stable. And God gives His peace.
God”™s peace is difficult to describe, but is real nonetheless. Are you experiencing His peace as you face your day? Jesus said to His followers as they were walking to the Garden of Gethsemane:
(NASB) John 16:33 “These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.”
Jesus warned His disciples of the coming hours toward which they were walking. He did not want them to be “˜blindsided”™”¦but they would still besurprised and filled with fear and confusion. Jesus knew that His agony, suffering and death would cause His disciples to desert Him.
Jesus, however, wanted them to remember that He knew it was all going to take place”¦He was not surprised”¦in fact, this would be the very reason He had come”¦to go through these hours of pain and suffering.
Jesus gave His disciples the reason for His living hope in His Father ““ for His Father was with Him. (See John 6:32 Devotional on January 7, 2010)
Jesus”™ peace with the coming events would be evident when the disciples looked back on this time in their lives.
What circumstances are you now facing over which you have no control? How can you experience the peace of Christ within your mind, your heart and your emotions?
(NASB) Philippians 4:6-7 “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
The Peace of God comes from the God of Peace.
