2010″¦a road stretching out before us into this New Year”¦ No one knows what will be encountered on this road, but for the followers of Christ we can be sure of our destination.

Jesus knew His destination as He talked with His disciples on the path to the Garden of Gethsemane.

Jesus knew where His road would take Him in the next hours ahead”¦

He would be tried in an illegal and rigged Jewish court, tried before a secular Roman governor who was fearful for his reputation and position. The road Jesus would travel was not unknown to Him. It would take Him into Herod”™s palace and then on to a place of scourging and from there to the hill of Golgotha where He would be executed by crucifixion. This road was filled with jeering and abusive crowds. His road would continue as His dead body was taken from the cross and put into a borrowed grave”¦and then there would be silence”¦

But Jesus”™ road continued”¦the grave of death could not keep the Son of God. He would be resurrected on the third day”¦His road would lead upward and He would once again be seen by His disciples as well as by many others. His road did not stop there”¦as He stood blessing His disciples He ascended into heaven. He returned to His Father. Think about that, He returned to His Father. He had come from His Father and He would return to where He had come from before entering this world as a conceived baby. (See January 4, 2010 devotional)
