What work do you do? Do you see it as important and necessary?Work may be exciting, or boring, or something that has to be done. Our work helps to define who we are. God the Holy Spirit”™s work was defined by Jesus and it is important to understand the nature of His work.

Jesus explained the work of God the Holy Spirit whom He would send:

(NASB) John 16:8 “And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment;”

“convict the world concerning sin”: Have you been “˜convicted”™ or convinced that you need a Savior to save you from the things you say and do wrong? Jesus said that He would send the Helper to convince us of our wrongdoing. He shows us that we need to believe in Jesus to save us.

(NASB) John 16:9 “concerning sin, because they do not believe in Me;”

“convict the world concerning”¦righteousness”: Do you think of yourself as being right before God? Many people believe that they are “˜good enough”™ to go to heaven. But are they? There is only One “˜good enough”™ to enter the Father”™s presence, the Lord Jesus Christ”¦for He was without sin. Can you say that you are without sin?

(NASB) John 16:10 “and concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father and you no longer see Me;”

Jesus ascended into heaven after His death and resurrection from the grave. His true righteousness gave Him the “˜right”™ to go to His Father ““ He alone has been fully accepted by the holy God.

“convicting the world concerning”¦judgment”:

(NASB) John 16:11 “and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged.”

Satan, the prince of this world, now stands condemned by the actions of the Son of God on the cross and the giving of His blood as a sacrifice, in the grave and by His resurrection.

The work of the Holy Spirit is to show, and convince, you and me of our need of Jesus”¦as Savior and as Master in our lives, every day.
