Jesus was teaching His disciples as they sat at the Passover meal and had told them much then He dropped the “bombshell” that He as going away and they could not follow Him now, but would later, it caused all kinds of questions from those men. (See John 13:36) He was leaving them? It is a great probability that those men were greatly concerned. How could they continue to be given God”™s words if Jesus, the Son of God, was leaving? Then Jesus addressed this real concern.

(NIV) John 14:25-26 “All this I have spoken while still with you. 26 “˜But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”

What a promise! In various translations the Holy Spirit is called “the Comforter, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, and Standby”. What apt descriptions of God the Holy Spirit.

What a promise! The Holy Spirit would be sent by God the Father in the name of God the Son. God is Three Persons, yet one God. There is no one greater than the living God of the Bible.

What a promise! The disciples would be taught all things and be reminded of all that Jesus had said to them over the past three years. They did not have laptops, iphones, blackberry”™s, or notebooks to take notes.

What a promise! To you and me, God Himself (God the Holy Spirit) brought what Jesus said and did to the disciples as they testified of Him in Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, and Acts. The other books in the New Testament are letters which were written to churches or individuals.
