As thirteen men reclined around a low table, they were talking together and eating the Passover meal. Then the leader of this small group got up, took off His outer garments, wrapped a servant”™s towel around His waist, poured water into a basin and came back to the reclining men. He would have had to kneel at the feet of each man. He would wash their feet and then wipe them with the towel around His waist.

Can you imagine the stunned looks the men gave each other? A silence must have fallen upon this group of ordinary men from many walks of life.

Only one is recorded as protesting his Teacher”™s servant role”¦and that one was Simon Peter.

(NASB) John 13:12 “So when He had washed their feet, and taken His garments and reclined at the table again, He said to them, “˜Do you know what I have done to you?”™”

What lessons are best taught? Isn”™t it when teachers put their words into action and show students by their example?

Visual examples of truth have a profound effect on people”™s thinking and later actions.

Any falsity of a teacher”™s motive will be easily seen by their attitude, body language, and tone of voice. If a “˜teachable moment”™ is to prove a point or to cover a blunder ““ false piety will be in the spot light.

Jesus is the Teacher of truth ““ His tone of voice, His body language, His attitude must have been transparent to the twelve men as He washed their feet.

These men would have been ready to receive His teaching.

Think about this: Jesus took on a servant”™s role to wash feet from the dust of the streets and to wash lives from the filth of sin. (By His death on the cross.)

Jesus”™ transparency reveals His heart attitude ““ it is one of love, sacrificial love. Jesus uses “˜teachable moments”™ in our lives today”¦are we listening? Are we responding to His teaching of truth?

Do you know what Jesus has done for you?
