Humility is not something cultures promote”¦humility is looked upon as weakness, it is for losers; pride disdains true humility.

Yet the Creator God chose to humble Himself and become a man, with flesh and blood like you and me.

Our attitude as followers of Christ should be the same as His:

(NASB) Philippians 2:6-8 “who although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped,

7 but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bondservant, and being made in the likeness of men.

8 Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.”

Jesus knew true humility and He taught His disciples through His example”¦we too can learn from what He showed those men on the evening before He was crucified the next day.

(NASB) John 13:3-5Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come forth from God and was going back to God,

4 got up from supper, and laid aside His garments; and taking a towel, He girded Himself.

5 Then He poured water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples”™ feet and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded.”

Jesus”™ act of humility was done without giving up His authority as the Son of God. He had received His authority from God the Father. And this same authority would be seen in His resurrection from the dead. (See NIV John 10:17-18 “The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life ““ only to take it up again. 18 No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father.”)

Jesus”™ act of humility was not from a show of false piety.

When you do an act of humility”¦what are your motives behind the action?

Is it to be done to be seen by others or to bring glory to God?

Your motives are key in your actions and attitude.

Watch others to discern their true motives through their actions.

Words are suspect, actions betray motives.
