Messiah”¦Heart Rending Sorrow
As the twin towers were attacked in 2001, the pictures were sobering, and as we watched we were stunned. This couldn”™t be happening”¦it was beyond comprehension”¦yet the TV cameras told the unfolding events. The instigators, the victims and the heroes died in that inferno. Sorrow, heart rending sorrow, for such an atrocious crime against humanity is still felt today.
How important it is to have a personal relationship with the living God and Savior”¦while He is accessible through the Lord Jesus Christ. For all people will one day come to the end of their lives and the choices that have been made will result in heaven or hell.
Jesus had sorrow, heart rending sorrow, for the people of Jerusalem because of their choices”¦in rejecting Him”¦ “˜Listen”™ as Jesus weeps over Jerusalem”¦as He has probably wept over countless millions who have ignored or rejected Him.
(NASB) Luke 19:41-44 “When He approached Jerusalem, He saw the city and wept over it,
42 saying, “˜If you had known in this day, even you, the things which make for peace! But now they have been hidden from our eyes.
43 “˜For the days will come upon you when your enemies will throw up a barricade against you, and surround you and hem you in on every side,
44 and they will level you to the ground and your children within you, and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not recognize the time of your visitation.”™”
God”™s intentions were for His people to experience peace and a relationship through His Son, the Messiah.
Jesus”™ heart rending sorrow was for the Jewish people. The adoring crowds would reject Him before the week was out and their rejection of Messiah would result in spiritual blindness.
In 70 AD this prophecy would be fulfilled. Rome would come and besiege the city, building embankments around it and then destroy the temple, burning it and tearing the great stones down”¦this beautifully ornate building would be ravaged for the gold that had adorned it.
And this destruction of the temple was all because the people had “˜not recognized the time of your visitation.”™ Jesus had come and most had rejected Him.
Jesus wept over Jerusalem for it held people whom He loved. He continues to have heart rending sorrow for the way He is scorned, ignored and rejected today.
He also knew those who rejected Him faced eternity apart from God.
He knew what was in the future ““ He knows what is in our future also.
The following are suggestions for you wherever you are in your relationship with the Lord Jesus:
Is Jesus weeping over you and your choices? If so, you can turn to Him and ask Him to come into your life and heart. (Click on the Resources tab on this page then click on God’s Plan of Salvation.)
If you have received Jesus into your life, yet you continue to “˜go your own way”™, seek His forgiveness and be re-united with your Savior.
