Where does godly discernment come from and how do we “˜get it”™? Many times we argue and “˜brow beat”™ others who do not believe in the Lord Jesus”¦and we find out it is just a waste of time and alienates relationships. In fact, arguing will only entrench another in their beliefs and further separate them from the truths of God.

What can we do? Prayer is always essential”¦for we are depending on God and not ourselves to penetrate another”™s thinking and outlook.

When God and His word are working in a life, then that person will be convinced of God”™s truths. So, be alert and watch for the Holy Spirit of God to draw others to Himself and see God doing the miraculous.

(NIV) Philippians 1:9-11

“And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, 10so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, 11filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ ““ to the glory and praise of God.”

Notice that “˜to discern”™ is to be “˜pure and blameless”™.

Notice that “˜”¦to discern”™ is to be “˜filled with the fruit of righteousness”™.

This discernment only “˜comes through Jesus Christ”™.

This discernment is for “˜the glory and praise of God.”™

To grow and become mature in Christ Jesus is to use discernment with discrimination. Be innocent as a dove and wise as a serpent. We are to use what God has given us, with godly wisdom. How are we to gain in understanding? By reading and studying what God”™s word states. There is no other way.

Being involved with other believers in a Bible study is valuable to our growth.

Your discernment will grow as your love for God deepens. Your insight will have new depths as your knowledge of God (through His word), His grace, His love, His character becomes known to you.

My prayer for you is what the above verses state”¦

(NIV) Philippians 1:9-11

“And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, 10so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, 11filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ ““ to the glory and praise of God.”

Amen.
