Jesus used a variety of methods to teach”¦He used parables and He used hyperbole.

The dictionary defines hyperbole: An exaggeration or extravagant statement used as a figure of speech.

What a picture Jesus drew as He spoke of a person trying to change another.

“˜Listen”™ as Jesus paints a word picture about judging others:

(NASB) Matthew 7:3-4 “Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother”™s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?

4 “˜Or how can you say to your brother, “˜Let me take the speck out of your eye,”™ and behold, the log is in your own eye?”

Did you notice the questions Jesus asked His listeners? “˜Why do you look”¦?”™ and “˜”¦how can you say”¦?”™

Jesus is talking to you and me. We need to listen. Jesus wants to do something in your life and mine”¦and we can be actively involved with our Savior. Isn”™t that amazing?! The Lord Jesus wants you and me to respond to His teachings.

Jesus was pointedly referring to you and me because He said: “˜you”™, “˜your”™ and “˜me”™.

(underlining added)

(NASB) Matthew 7:5 “You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother”™s eye.”

Of whom are you critical and judgmental?_____________

What “˜log”™ do you need to evaluate in your own life?
