Pattern for Praying”¦Against Temptation
Jesus said, “˜Pray, then, in this way:
(NASB) Matthew 6:9-13a “And do not lead us into temptation”¦”
When anyone falls into temptation, gives into temptation ““ there is only one direction to go and that is down and away from God. Beware of wrong desires for these lead to sin and sin results in death.
These are the three descending stages or steps of temptation: desire, sin, death.
(NASB) James 1:13-16 “Let no one say when he is tempted, “˜I am being tempted by God”™; for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone.
14 But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust.
15 Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death.”
16 Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren.”
Our temptations do not come from God.
1- They do come from our selfish wants (lusts).
2- They do come from Satan”™s deceptions and lies.
Satan tempts us to sever our relationship with God.
Tests that come into our lives can confirm our faith in God and prove our commitment to God.
This is our choice: to resist temptation or to give in to temptation.
(NASB) 1 Corinthians 10:12-13 “Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed that he does not fall.
13 No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.”
Be encouraged! Our temptations are not unusual.
Be encouraged! God is faithful.
Be encouraged! Watch for God”™s way of escape so you may endure.
