Salt”¦a substance which we take for granted. It is necessary for our bodies to have salt for proper functioning. Too much salt or too little salt in our diets will lead to health problems.

Wars have been fought over”¦salt. Salt has been highly valued throughout history and it was of great importance in the ancient world. Major routes have been named for salt as it was transported from one region or country to another.

Salt is used by many religions in their rituals.

Jesus said in the Sermon on the Mount:

(NASB) Matthew 5:13 “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men.”

Christ Jesus valued those who followed Him, who listened to Him, who believed what He said. He called them “˜”¦the salt of the earth.”™

You and I are of great value to Jesus also. If you are a follower of Christ, one who puts His words into practice throughout your day, you also are “˜”¦the salt of the earth.”™

Salt is a preservative”¦so it follows that believers who practice what Jesus taught are a deterrent to moral decay and corruption in the lives they touch.

Question: is your life and mine different from “˜the world”™ which is without Christ? Do our choices show that we are “˜the salt of the earth”™?

Do we bring out the richness and flavor of life as a believer? Do we help to hinder moral decay or are we helping to promote it? Christ said: “˜but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men.”

If we act like “˜the world”™, then are we not good “¦ for anything?

Our words, actions and choices are a witness, a testimony to those with whom we live and interact.

Salt”¦a Christian”™s witness to a watching world.

“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again?”

You are highly valued by Christ”¦does your life reflect that you highly value Christ and His teachings? To live such a life, don”™t we need to know what Christ taught and how we are to respond in a world that does not know Him?
