Blessed”¦Are Those Who Hunger and Thirst for Righteousness
It had been a beautiful day but overly warm. The deer had been busy taking care of her young fawn and being ever watchful to see that no harm came to this little one. Now she was thirsty and knew where a stream of water was flowing which would satisfy her thirst. As she bent her head to drink that cool water, she glanced to see that the fawn was safe amid the shadows of the trees nearby.
When your circumstances have made you anxious, or fearful, or feeling pressure, do you seek what will satisfy your need as the deer did in the above scenario?
Do you have hollowness or restlessness, are you searching for something to fill that void but it eludes your grasp? Have you considered that this may be God”™s way of causing you to seek Him?
Listen to what the Psalmist said:
(NIV) Psalm 42:1-2 “AS THE deer pants for the streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God.
2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?”
(NASB) Matthew 5:6 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.”
God will satisfy anyone who seeks Him. He gives each seeker just what they need in Christ Jesus”¦His own righteousness. This is available to anyone ““ to be satisfied in mind, satisfied in the emotions, so satisfied that the will is yielded to Him who supplies all our needs.
Request for righteousness:
(NASB) Psalm 118:19 “Open to me the gates of righteousness; I shall enter through them, I shall give thanks to the Lord.”
Like the Psalmist, we also can request God for His righteousness.
Recognition of Jesus Christ:
(NASB) Psalm 118:20 “This is the gate of the Lord; The righteous will enter through it.”
It is Jesus Christ Who is the Gate we need to enter into God”™s presence.
(NIV ““ John 10:9) “I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture.”
Response of Thanksgiving:
(NASB) Psalm 118:21 “I shall give thanks to You, for you have answered me,
And You have become my salvation.”
There is none other who gives true salvation, Jesus alone does this.
God promises to satisfy those who seek His righteousness”¦are you satisfied?
