Blessed”¦Are Those Who Mourn
King David had done not one but two “˜big”™ sins”¦he had committed adultery and he had committed murder. Psalm 51 was a result of those “˜big”™ sins.
Gossip and slander, hatred, discord, envy, drunkenness, jealousy, fits of rage, all are sins. Man makes a list of “˜big”™ sins and “˜little”™ sins. No matter our sins, sin is still sin before God. (See Galatians 5:19-21; Ephesians 4:17-32)
What does each person (this includes you and me) need to deal with in a relationship to and with God?
Isn”™t it to sense and know our sins are against God and for this we need to mourn and seek God”™s comforting forgiveness and love?
(NASB) Matthew 5:4 “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.”
When anyone is confronted by their sins, what should they do; what should we do?
Wisdom is to seek God and His mercy, as King David did.
(NIV) Psalm 51:1-2 “HAVE MERCY on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions.
2 Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.”
Notice that our dependence is on God”™s unfailing love, His great compassion to forgive, to wash, and to cleanse us from our sin.
(NIV) Psalm 51:3-6 “For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me.
4 Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you are proved right when you speak and justified when you judge.
5 Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me.
6 Surely you desire truth in the inner parts; you teach me wisdom in the inmost place.”
When (not if) you and I sin, it is ultimately against God. We need His forgiveness.
(NIV) Psalm 51:7-8 “Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.
9 Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquity.”
What promises for those who are forgiven! All cleaned up, washed, purified, sins blotted out”¦never to be seen again. All of this can only be through the Son of God, because He took those sins on Himself on the cross and was judged for those sins by God the Father. There is no other Savior, there is only One Savior”¦the Lord Jesus Christ.
What sins do you need to confess and ask for God”™s mercy?
