Philip”¦
To find something, we need to search for it. And this is what Jesus did”¦He searched for Philip and found him. From what Philip later said to Nathanael we can know that Philip was convinced that Jesus fit the descriptions of Messiah as given by Moses and the Prophets.
(NASB) John 1:43 “The next day He purposed to go into Galilee, and He found Philip”¦”
Jesus did not ask Andrew or Simon or Philip what would be convenient for them, He decided what would be best for them. He decided to go to Galilee. They were on the east side of the Jordan River, not far from Jerusalem and they would travel north.
As a follower of Jesus, are you ready to go where He decides?
(NASB) John 1:43 “And Jesus said to him, “˜Follow Me.”™”
How do we respond to Jesus”™ call to us, “˜Follow Me”™?
At times we may respond with quickness, other times with dragging feet and perhaps we may even ignore His call ““ which is our loss and shame.
(NASB) John 1:44 “Now Philip was from Bethsaida, of the city of Andrew and Peter.”
Bethsaida was a town on the north shore of the Sea of Galilee. Andrew and Peter were commercial fishermen; Scripture does not tell us what Philip did for a living.
(NASB) John 1:45 “Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “˜We have found Him of whom Moses in the Law and also the Prophets wrote ““ Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”™”
Philip was convinced that Jesus fit the description which Moses and the Prophets had written. Philip must have had “˜fire”™ in his eyes, excitement in his voice as he talked with Nathanael.
God”™s word convinced Philip. Studying God”™s word is how we are convinced of Who Jesus is.
How are you becoming more convinced about Who Jesus is and growing in your faith?
