The dictionary”™s definition of testimony: 1. A declaration or affirmation of fact or truth, such as that given before a court. 12. Any evidence in support of a fact of assertion; proof. 4. A public declaration regarding a religious experience.

John”™s testimony did all the above.

(NASB) John 1:29-31 “The next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, “˜Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!

30 “˜This is He on behalf of whom I said, “˜After me comes a Man who has a higher rank than I, for He existed before me.”™

31 I did not recognize him, but so that He might be manifested to Israel, I came baptizing in water.”™

John stated that he had been sent so that he could introduce Jesus to Israel. He was to reveal Messiah and he did so at this time in history.

In verse 30, John made an interesting statement: “”˜After me comes a Man who has a higher rank than I, for He existed before me.”™”

John was declaring that Jesus was God ““ He had existed before John had been born. It is easy to know that a person has lived before me, but it is hard to grasp that Jesus existed before John was born”¦John had been born before Jesus was born of Mary!

(NASB) John 1:32-34 “John testified saying, “˜I have seen the Spirit descending as a dove out of heaven, and He remained upon Him.

33 “˜I did not recognize Him but He who sent me to baptize in water said to me, “˜He upon whom you see the Spirit descending and remaining upon Him, this is the One who baptizes in the Holy Spirit.”™

34“™I myself have seen, and have testified that this is the Son of God.”™”

John”™s testimony was a declaration of fact, of truth. He has offered you and me proof of his experience.
