John the Baptist had baptized Jesus, Who then went into the wilderness to be tempted”¦and John had continued to baptize many. At least 40 days and 40 nights passed and once again John the Baptist is the focus. A delegation of priests and Levites had questioned him: “˜Who are you?”™ Are you the promised Messiah or Elijah or the Prophet, and John had denied all of those exalted names. Now some Pharisees had been sent from Jerusalem and they had some questions also.

(NASB) John 1:25-27 “They asked him, and said to him, “˜Why then are you baptizing, if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?”™

26 John answered them saying, “˜I baptize in water, but among you stands One whom you do not know.

27 It is He who comes after me, the thong of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie.”™”

John understood who he was not.

John understood that the delegation from Jerusalem had no clue to Who Jesus was.

John understood who he was in relation to Messiah, the Son of God.

John understood the worth of Jesus.

John understood that his mission was to point others to Jesus.

(NASB) John 1:28 “These things took place in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.”

This was a real circumstance in a real place at a specific time in history.

John understood, do you?

Do you understand who you are in relation to Jesus Christ, God”™s Son?

How do you respond to Him?

Is it with awe?

Is it with adoration of Who He is?

How do you respond to Him?
