Expecting to Find God”™s Truth
Consider the last time you received good news, really good news. News that made you happy and even excited. Was it recently when a favorite team won? Perhaps it was in the political arena? Or was it good news as you were promoted in your company? For some, good news is dependent on the economy and the stock market.
If we depend on externals to make us happy”¦we will eventually be disappointed”¦if not today, then tomorrow.
For followers of Jesus”¦it is “˜good news of great joy”™. God”™s word is true and fully worthy of trust in an untrustworthy world.
This is what the shepherds found”¦an angel had told them an awesome message”¦and they went to find out for themselves.
(NASB) Luke 2:15 “When the angels had gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds began saying to one another, “˜Let us go straight to Bethlehem then, and see this thing that has happened which the Lord has made known to us.”™”
The shepherds had no skepticism”¦it was not a part of their mindset after the message had been given to them. After the sounds and the sight of the many angels”¦these shepherds were convinced that what the angel had told them was true and they set out to prove it”¦they expected to find this baby lying in a manger. And they did.
You and I can do the same thing”¦when we read and hear God”™s word, we too can say “Let us go”¦and see”¦which the Lord has made known to us.”
As you read the words that God has given in the Holy Bible”¦how do you respond? Do you respond with belief that God”™s message is for you? Do you believe that God”™s message is true? Do you act upon it as the shepherds did? Do you also “˜go”¦and see”¦which the Lord has made known”™ to you?
What is your expectation after reading God”™s word for yourself?
God”™s word is filled with direction, encouragement and counsel. One passage is:
(NIV) Proverbs 3:5-7 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight.
7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil.”
“Let us go”¦and see”¦which the Lord has made known to us.”
