In the United States, the elections have been held for President/Vice President, for seats in the House and Senate, for state offices and local responsibilities. Followers of Christ are to pray for their leaders…even if not agreeing with the political stance.

No matter what…has occurred we are to put God first in our lives.

(NASB) Psalm 91:1, 14-16 “HE WHO dwells in the shelter of the Most High

Will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.”

14 “Because he has loved Me, therefore I will deliver him;

I will set him securely on high, because he has known My name.

15 “He will call upon Me, and I will answer him;

I will be with him in trouble;

I will rescue him and honor him.

16 “With a long life I will satisfy him

And let him see My salvation.”

No matter what…we can learn this from a couple who were committed to loving and serving the Most High God.

(NASB) Luke 1:5 “In the days of Herod, king of Judea, there was a priest named Zacharias, of the division of Abijah; and he had a wife from the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth.”

Herod was a king set up by Rome…he was an excellent builder of cities and temples but to the Jewish population he was cruel. They suffered greatly under his leadership.

Zacharias was a priest in the Jewish religion; his wife was of the priestly tribe of Aaron also.

No matter who was in the political position of power…they put God first.

What can we learn about living in a hostile governmental environment from this couple?

(NASB) Luke 1:6″They were both righteous in the sight of God, walking blamelessly in all the commandments and requirements of the Lord.”

No matter what…this godly couple put God first.

(NASB) Luke 1:7 “but they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and they were both advanced in years.”

No matter what…the sorrow of not having a child, Zacharias and Elizabeth put God first.

No matter what…are you putting God first

in your life, in your marriage, in your job?

How shall you now pray? The above verses of Psalm 91 would be a great place to start.
