Fear crowds into thoughts and tries to control our lives. Fear in the “˜wrong’ person becoming President, fear of terrorists, fear for the economy, fear of job loss, fear of loss of insurance, fears of what others think about “˜me’. Fears can control our lives.

What is fear? Isn’t it the lack of confidence in the living God? Followers of Christ are to approach the throne of God’s grace with boldness and with confidence. It is God’s Divine Help we need, His grace working on our behalf, right at the time we need it. The Psalmist understood this in Psalm 143 as he prayed…

(NASB) Psalm 143:7

“Answer me quickly, O Lord, my spirit fails;

Do not hide Your face from me,

Or I will become like those who go down to the pit.”

Depression sees only bleakness and defeat. Turning to God, crying out to God from the depths of our being is wise – no matter what our emotions are at the time. Seeking God and His answers is a sure course of action…always.

How are we to react to depression? The following are some suggestions:

  • 1- Seek God, ask Him to hear your voice

  • 2- Tell Him how you feel – with honesty

  • 3- Know that He hears you

  • 4- Expect Him to answer in His timing and in His way

  • 5- Use a Psalm as your personal prayer – such as Psalm 143 and others.

(NASB) Psalm 143:8a

“Let me hear Your lovingkindness in the morning;

For I trust in You;”

Fact: God gives His lovingkindness to those who listen – that is a part of the Grace of God!

The Grace of God is not dependent on who you are or what you do ~

it is entirely dependent on God Himself.

How does God use my circumstances, my emotions for His glory?

Depressive circumstances may be used by God to get your attention onto Him!

Your circumstances, your emotions, may be used by God to cause you to seek His lovingkindness in the mornings of your life.

What’s happening is an opportunity to lean on, to trust in God in a deeper way. (That’s growth!)

(NASB) Psalm 143:8b

“Teach me the way in which I should walk;

For to You I lift up my soul.”

Is this your prayer?
