Words give insight into a person’s character. The tone of voice, the facial expression, and the body language can be carefully schooled to fool some of the people some of the time. But no one can fool all the people all of the time.

Ruth’s character was well known because of her loving actions toward Naomi.

For what do others know you? Do they know you for being a person of integrity, and living sacrificially? Or are you known for being selfish and for self-aggrandizement?

Notice Boaz’ reaction to Ruth on that night when she came and laid at his feet:

(NASB) Ruth 3:10 “Then he said, “˜May you be blessed of the Lord, my daughter. You have shown your last kindness to be better than the first by not going after young men, whether poor or rich.'”

***Isn’t this amazing! Startled from sleep and Boaz’ words are for the Lord, the Almighty God of Israel, to bless Ruth. Perhaps the reason he was so quick to think of the Lord is because that is to Whom he had prayed before sleeping. His faith was a part of his daily life…and it is apparent through his words and conduct.

What do people see in your daily life…is it a personal, close and intimate relationship with the living God of the Bible? Is your relationship with the Lord Jesus a “˜Sunday go- to-meetin’ relationship or is it a daily dependence on the living Lord?

Did you note that Boaz is probably older than Ruth from what he said to her in the above verse? Did Boaz’ believe he was too old for Ruth and wanted to give her the opportunity to marry someone younger? I don’t believe so, rather he complimented Ruth on her choices for not considering age, wealth or lack of wealth. Boaz recognized Ruth’s character by her choices. Boaz had insight into people, do you? He recognized the wisdom that Ruth exhibited and could tell her so in this surprise visit.

(NASB) Ruth 3:11 “Now, my daughter, do not fear. I will do for you whatever you ask, for all my people in the city know that you are a woman of excellence.”

NIV Bible “…All my fellow townsmen know that you are a woman of noble character.”

***Ruth’s character and reputation was impeccable. Who had promoted Ruth’s standing through her actions? Don’t you think it had to have been Naomi? Perhaps Boaz also contributed to Ruth’s reputation.

What is your reputation? Does your reputation give God the glory and honor and praise? Ruth’s did and so did Boaz. Their faith was firmly in the God of Israel. (See Ruth 1:16)

Reputations are built on actions.

What do you need to do to reflect God in your life? How about trusting Him by reading and putting His words into action?

How shall you now pray?
