Jacob’s prophetic last words included his sons Simeon and Levi.
(NASB) Genesis 49:5-7 “Simeon and Levi are brothers;
Their swords are implements of violence.
6 ‘Let my soul not enter into their council;  Let not my glory be united with their assembly;
Because in their anger they slew men,  And in their self-will they lamed oxen.
7 ‘Cursed be their anger, for it is fierce;  And their wrath, for it is cruel.
I will disperse them in Jacob,  And scatter them in Israel.”

Simeon and Levi took revenge against a man for raping their sister, Dinah.  But their anger involved all the men of that town.  They killed all of them.  (Genesis 34:25-31)

Jacob did not “… disperse them in Jacob, And scatter them in Israel” God did that!
God fulfilled this prophecy.

Simeon – the tribe of Simeon was gradually absorbed into the tribe of Judah – many years in the future.

For followers of Christ, like the tribe of Simeon, we are forever a part of God’s family.  Like Simeon, followers of Christ, our actions do have consequences and will impact our eternity.

(NASB) 1 Corinthians 3:12-15 “Now if any man builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw,
13 each man’s work will become evident; for the day will show it because it is to be revealed with fire, and the fire itself will test the quality of each man’s work.
14 If any man’s work which he has built on it remains, he will receive a reward.
15 If any man’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.”

Levi – the tribe of Levi was not given their own land when the Israelites went into the Promised Land.  God, in His sovereignty, made this tribe the priestly tribe to serve Him and the people.  When they entered the Promised Land, they were given 48 towns to live in, scattered throughout the land among all the tribes of Israel.

The tribe of Levi, the Levitical priests; were a “picture” or “type” of Messiah as High Priest.

(NASB) Hebrews 7:23-25 “The former priests, on the one hand, existed in greater numbers because they were prevented by death from continuing,
24 but Jesus, on the other hand, because He continues forever, holds His priesthood permanently.
25 Therefore He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.”

~ Take it to heart ~

Followers of Christ – our great High Priest is Jesus.  He came to serve God.  He intercedes for us and He continues to do so as our High Priest – this day!
