When you are criticized, demeaned or ostracized, how do you respond?  Are you defensive in your words, actions or body language?

God’s word says we are to pursue peace with others.  God’s word does not say we are to pursue peace only if they are kind or complimentary.

How are you to pursue peace with another when they criticize you?
1st – forgive.  For you are forgiven by God your Savior, Jesus.
(NASB) 1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

2nd – trust the Lord for the strength to walk the path He has you.
(NASB) Proverbs 3:5-7 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart
‘And do not lean on your own understanding.
6 In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He will make your paths straight.
7 Do not be wise in your own eyes;
Fear the Lord and turn away from evil.”

3rd – seek to build another up.  Use sincerity, we are not to use flattery.
(NASB) Romans 14:19 “So then we pursue the things which make for peace and the building up of one another.”

4th – love that person.  Christ Jesus loved and died for that person, just as He did for you.
(NASB) Romans 5:8  “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

Take it to heart ~

Today – you are responsible for your attitude and actions, you are accountable to the living God.
(NASB) Romans 12:18 “If possible, so far as it depends on you,
be at peace with all men.”

Today – pursue peace
(NASB) Psalm 34:14 “Depart from evil and do good;
Seek peace and pursue it.”
