Exercise strengthens muscles and has a benefit of lifting depression.

Regular exercise takes discipline…discipline to go to the gym or go on those walks and/or runs on a regular basis.

Exercise also means eating healthy food and drinking plenty of water to keep the body functioning properly.
The discipline required for physical exercise can be used as a spiritual illustration.

God tells us about discipline…as you read, know that He is speaking to you.
(NASB) Hebrews 12:11 “All discipline for the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful; yet to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness.”

Godly discipline is spiritual training producing peace with God Himself.  The Amplified Bible says it in this way:
Hebrews 12:11 “For the time being no discipline brings joy, but seems grievous and painful; but afterwards it yields a peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it [a harvest of fruit which consists in righteousness – in conformity to God’s will in purpose, thought, and action, resulting in right living and right standing with God.]”

  Peace with the living God is to agree with Him and be on track with His will for you.  Your motives, your purposes in life, how you think and the things you do will result in living a life that is in line with God.  His peace is given as we are taught by Him.

When we have a healthy relationship with the God of the Holy Bible, we know we are intimately cared for by Him.

  For this reason we are to exercise and become spiritually strong.
 (NASB) Hebrews 12:12 “Therefore, strengthen the hands that are weak and the knees that are feeble,
13 and make straight paths for your feet, so that the limb which is lame may not be put out of joint, but rather be healed.”

How you exercise is important.  Exercise demands discipline.  To be disciplined is to be teachable.  As we learn God’s lessons, we are to put what God teaches us into practical action in our homes, our jobs, our worship and our interactions with others.

Take it to heart ~

Strengthen your spiritual muscles.  Followers of Christ, we are to put God’s words into action from the time we wake up until we close our eyes in sleep.

(NASB) 1 John 3:21-22 “Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God;
22 and whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do the things that are pleasing in His sight.”

Are you pleasing the living God of the Bible by exercising and
doing what He says to do?
