God the Father’s love for the prodigal ~ Celebration!

Jesus told parables to illustrate Godly truths.  God the Father has love for you, for anyone who turns to Him through faith in His only begotten Son, Jesus.  The following parable illustrates God the Father’s love for the prodigal.

There were two sons.  The youngest went to his father and asked for his share of the inheritance.  The father divided his wealth between his sons.  Not long after this, the youngest son took off and traveled to another country many miles from home.  He lived a lavish life style, spending his inheritance until there was nothing left.

A severe famine came and he became impoverished…all his “friends” left him.  He had no way to even feed himself.  He finally found a job…feeding pigs.  He was so hungry!  Even the pods the pigs received looked good to him.  But he was not given anything.

One day, he “came to his senses” and realized that the servants in his father’s house ate better than he did.  He decided to go home and tell his father, “Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in your sight; I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me as one of your hired men.”  And that is exactly what he did.

This prodigal son was still a long way from his father’s house when his father saw him.  The father’s compassion caused him to run to his returning son, embracing him, loving him, kissing him as only a father can.

The son said exactly what he had decided to say.  How did his father respond?  He called his servants to bring out his best robe and put it on this beloved son.  The servants were to give this returned prodigal son a ring on his hand and sandals for his feet.

A fattened calf was killed and prepared for a feast and they celebrated!

(NASB) Luke 15:24 “‘for this son of mine was dead and has come to life again; he was lost and has been found.’  And they began to celebrate.”

God the Father’s compassion is just as great today as when Jesus told this parable.  Are you a prodigal?  God loves you!  Turn to Him and be forgiven!  Trust Him for He loves you!

Take it to heart ~
