When you are confronted with another’s anger…how do you respond or react?
Reacting in defense is “natural.”  Yelling back or talking with harshness will only add fuel to the fire of anger, though.

What does God say to do?
(ESV) Proverbs 15:1 “A soft answer turns away wrath,
but a harsh word stirs up anger.”

Followers of Christ, you have been given the Holy Spirit of God when you received Jesus as your Savior.  You have been given the fruit of the Holy Spirit Who lives in you!
You already have the fruit, now you have opportunities to put the fruit into action.

(ESV) Galatians 5:22-23 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.”

You have a choice in how to respond to another’s anger.  You have been given self-control.  You have an opportunity to put that fruit of the Spirit into action when another’s words of condemnation, criticism and/or anger spew out at you.

So many times another’s angry outburst is sudden and surprising.  How to contend with that unforeseen circumstance?  Ask God to give you His self-control when you get up to begin your day; ask Him to help you meet the challenges and opportunities by exercising the fruit of the Spirit throughout your day.
