Paul knew of the Lord’s plans for him…to be a witness of Him in Rome. (Acts 23:11)
He also knew God’s protection in hard circumstances.  God can, and does, use various people and situations to fulfill His purposes.

Paul trusted God, period.  Do you?  No matter how others treated Paul, his confidence was in the living God of the Bible.  In whom is your confidence when you are treated unfairly?  Paul’s hope was not in himself…where is your hope, in yourself or another?  There is only one Person in whom followers of Christ are to have confidence and hope – it is in God our Savior.

(NASB) Psalm 56:11 “In God I have put my trust, I shall not be afraid.
What can man do to me?”

Even when a Jewish mob in Jerusalem beat Paul with the intent to kill him, he was rescued by a Roman commander and his soldiers.

Even when there was a conspiracy to kill him, he again was protected.  The plot was discovered and the Roman commander took Paul by night and sent him to Caesarea.

The Roman commander sent a letter to Felix the Governor in Caesarea explaining the case.  Paul was put under guard in Herod’s palace (Praetorium).  (Acts 23:23-35)

You and I are to trust in God.  He is our confidence.  He is our hope.

When we trust in ourselves, or our circumstances, or our bank account, or other people – we will be disappointed or even devastated at some point.

Confidence= Trusting the living God.
(NASB) Proverbs 3:25-26 “Do not be afraid of sudden fear
Nor of the onslaught of the wicked when it comes;
26 For the LORD will be your confidence
And will keep your foot from being caught.”

Hope = Trusting the living God.
(NASB) Psalm 38:15 “For I hope in You, O LORD;’
You will answer, O Lord my God.”

Confidence and Hope in God = Trusting Him.
