Paul and Silas left Thessalonica by night because of jealous Jews stirring up mobs against them.  (Acts 17:5-10)

They traveled to Berea and according to Paul’s custom, they found a Jewish synagogue.  Paul proclaimed Jesus as the Messiah according to Scripture.  (The Scripture was the Old Testament.)

What did Paul teach and proclaim?
Messiah had to suffer – as Jesus suffered.
Messiah had to rise from the dead – Jesus was resurrected with a physical body.

How did the people in Berea react and respond to Paul’s preaching?
(NASB) Acts 17:11 “Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so.”

Are you like the Bereans?  Do you eagerly examine the Scriptures every day?
If your answer is “yes” – then continue to do so, with thankfulness that you have a Bible.
If your answer is “no” – pray and ask the living God to give you a hunger and thirst to know Him by studying His words to you.

The Bereans found that what Paul was saying about Messiah did describe the Lord Jesus, according to God’s word!  They examined the Scriptures to be sure they were not led astray by a false teaching.  We also need to examine the Scriptures for ourselves.

(NASB) Acts 17:12 “Therefore many of them believed, along with a number of prominent Greek women and men.”

Many in the Jewish congregation believed what Scripture said and what Paul was proclaiming.  A number of leading Gentile women and men also believed.  Those people believed the truth of God.  Do you?

(NASB) Psalm 32:8 “I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go;
I will counsel you with My eye upon you.”

That is what the Lord God did for the Bereans and He will do that for you also!

The question that only you can answer: “Are you like the Bereans?”
