A miracle resulted when the power of the name of Jesus delivered a girl from a spirit of divination by Paul.  (Acts 16:16-18)
The masters of that girl were angry.  She was a source of income to them by telling fortunes.  Their money-maker was taken away when she was delivered from that demon.

How the masters reacted:
(NASB) Acts 16:19-21 “But when her masters saw that their hope of profit was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the market place before the authorities,
20 and when they had brought them to the chief magistrates, they said, ‘These men are throwing our city into confusion, being Jews,
21 and are proclaiming customs which it is not lawful for us to accept or to observe, being Romans.’”

They seized, dragged, and accused Paul and Silas.  They used the legal system to get even with Paul and Silas because their method of making money had been taken away.

Notice: these men did not state their reason for treating Paul and Silas in this way.  They established their “case” against Paul and Silas using what would get the attention of the authorities.  The authorities were Romans.  Philippi was a Roman colony, and under the control of Rome.  (Acts 16:12)

False accusations all because a slave girl had been delivered from a spirit of divination.

False accusations stirred up anger and a mob formed – this devotional will consider that tomorrow.

False accusations mislead and are without factual truth.

False accusations cover up the real reason, the real agenda, behind the accusations.

False accusations did not permit Paul and Silas to defend themselves from their accusers or the resulting mob action.

False accusations can cause an attitude of being defeated because there seems to be no recourse for the accused.

How did Paul and Silas handle this situation?  Were they defeated?  No, they were not.  Looking ahead in this true account, Paul and Silas were beaten by a mob and thrown into prison, did that defeat them?  No, it did not.
How did they respond to such circumstances?  They prayed and sang, there in the dark of night in a prison.
(Acts 16:23-25)

False accusations did not deter Paul and Silas from talking and singing to the living God, even in prison.

Perhaps you been falsely accused, how are you responding?
