(NASB) Acts 2:42 “They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.”

Who were the “They”?  Men and women who were followers of Christ and who had received the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost.
As a result of the apostles’ teaching: men and women, who had turned to the Lord, were forgiven of their sins, given the Holy Spirit and been baptized.

What were the followers of Christ doing?  There was a continuous action of devotion to God.  They devoted themselves to listening to the teaching of the apostles.  They were interacting with one another by intentionally being together.  When they met, they had a meal (pot luck’s abounded!), and they prayed – together!

Whenever you meet with other followers of Christ, is prayer one of the actions which sets apart your fellowship?

What are some of the lessons we can learn from this first church (this body of believers)?
Devotion to God is to be a continuous action.
Devotion to some part of your day and mine to being taught by the living God from His word (Bible study).
Devotion to listening to godly teaching of God’s truth!
Choosing to be an active participant in your church.
Fellowshipping with other believers (those within the church and those who are also believers in Christ in other churches and denominations who honor and worship the teachings of Jesus Christ as Savior, Messiah and Redeemer).
[For some people, it is much easier to be a “hermit,” a “recluse”.  We are to be actively involved with other believers!  God says so!]
Prayer is to be a major component of our times when alone and with other believers.

Followers of Christ…
Does your life show that you have a continuous devotion to God?
