Waiting…waiting…many times is hard.  We become impatient, surly, prickly, difficult to be around…while we wait.  Waiting to be doing something other than what we feel we’re trapped in at this time in our lives.  Many times as we wait, we grit our teeth, every day!

  What did the resurrected Lord Jesus say to His followers?
(NASB) Luke 24:49 “And behold, I am sending forth the promise of My Father upon you; but you are to stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”

  Did those disciples fully understand what Jesus was saying?  I don’t believe they did; but, two things they did hear – “…stay…until…”

  What had Jesus told them during the Last Supper, before He died?
(NASB) John 14:26 “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.”
  [Other defining names for the Holy Spirit: Comforter, Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, Standby

  In the weeks ahead, this devotional will consider how the apostles were “clothed with power from on high” as we study the words of the Acts of the Holy Spirit through their lives.

  “…stay…until…” ~ Waiting…waiting on God’s perfect timing, God’s purpose, God’s plan for you will “clothe” you “with power from on high.”
  You and I are to wait…wait on God.  We are His people, the sheep of His pasture.  If we go “our” way and ignore our Shepherd-Savior, we are out of God’s will and we won’t be “clothed with power from on high.”
  Waiting…waiting…means to “…stay…until…”

  And as we wait and continue to wait, what are we to do?
(NASB) Psalm 25:5 “Lead me in Your truth and teach me,
For You are the God of my salvation;
For You I wait all the day.”

  And what can we expect as we wait?
 (NASB) Isaiah 40:31 “Yet those who wait on the Lord
Will gain new strength;
They will mount up with wings like eagles,
They will run and not get tired,
They will walk and not become weary.”

  And for what are we waiting?
(NASB) Galatians 5:5 “For we through the Spirit; by faith, are waiting for the hope of righteousness.”

  “…stay…until…you are clothed with power from on high.”  And as we wait…pray!
