Excitedly, two men were telling what they had seen, to Whom they had talked and to Whom they listened as they went toward Emmaus.
  These two men had rushed back to Jerusalem, as late as it was, and had found the disciples. They were spilling over with excitement.  It was better than winning the World Cup of Futball (Soccer).  It was better than the winning at Wimbledon, or taking the World Series of Baseball…or even being ranked number 1 in the world of golf.

  Then these two men were told that the Lord Jesus had visited Peter!  (Luke 24:34-35)
  Even telling each other their experiences of the resurrected Lord Jesus, they were still startled.  They were still frightened when Jesus actually stood among them and spoke to them!  (Luke 24:36-37)

(NASB) Luke 24:38 “And He said to them, ‘Why are you troubled, and why do doubts arise in your hearts?”

  People are, well – people.  We become startled, even frightened when we are in stressful situations, surprising circumstances.  Unbelief, doubts and fears cause us to react.  When we know something logically and realistically and yet are confronted with something that is outside our experience – we doubt and we may even have fears.  We doubt what we are actually “seeing”.  And so the disciples reacted when Jesus stood among them.

  What did Jesus say that brought the fears and doubts about His actual physical resurrection into the open?
(NASB) Luke 24:38-40 “And He said to them, ‘Why are you troubled, and why do doubts arise in your hearts?
39 ‘See My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself; touch Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have.’
40 And when He had said this, He showed them His hands and His feet.”

  Jesus gave physical proof of His bodily resurrection.  He invited them to touch Him and they saw with their own eyes.  Then Jesus gave them another proof of His physical resurrection:
(NASB) Luke 24:41-43 “…He said to them, ‘Have you anything here to eat?’
42 They gave Him a piece of broiled fish;
43 and He took it and ate it before them.”

  As followers of Christ – our faith in Jesus takes our doubts and fears and changes our emotions into joy and amazement just like those first followers!

Our Jesus is risen!  He is risen indeed!
