Jesus had been ~ crucified.
  Jesus had been ~ buried.
The body of Jesus had ~ disappeared.
Some women had been told that Jesus was ~ resurrected.

Jesus met them physically:
Where did Jesus meet two men in the factual account of Scripture?  They were on the road from Jerusalem walking toward Emmaus.

Jesus met them emotionally:
Sorrow and sadness filled their thoughts and their words.  When Jesus joined them, He asked a gentle question, “What are these words that you are exchanging with one another as you are walking?”  (NASB Luke 24:17)
Imagine with me ~ the demeanor of those two travelers (saddened with grief) and the demeanor of Jesus (being the answer to their grief).

Jesus met them for their mental needs:
How did Jesus help them in their grief?
Jesus asked them another question.  And those two men could then let those things weighing heavily on their minds come spilling out to this ‘stranger.’
(NASB) Luke 24:19 “…‘What things?’”

And they told Him what things had occurred to sadden them:
(NASB) Luke 24:19-24 “…‘The things about Jesus the Nazarene, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word in the sight of God and all the people,
20 and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered Him to the sentence of death, and crucified Him.
21 ‘But we were hoping that it was He who was going to redeem Israel.  Indeed, besides all this, it is the third day since these things happened.
22 ‘But also some women among us amazed us.  When they were at the tomb early in the morning,
23 and did not find His body, they came, saying that they had also seen a vision of angels who said that He was alive.
24 ‘Some of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just exactly as the women also had said; but Him they did not see.’”
