Who were some of the people watching Jesus die?  Roman soldiers, Jewish religious leaders, women and men who loved Jesus, curiosity and “ambulance” chasers out to see what was happening…all watching Jesus as He suffered on the cross – for them and us.

  What were some of those people doing as Jesus and two criminals were dying?
Jesus, the Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel, was being mocked.  He was a reproach to them, they despised Him.  They sneered at Him with their lips and wagged their heads – Jesus could not go any lower in their estimation.

  Read what David wrote:
(NIV) Psalm 22:6-8 “But I am a worm and not a man, scorned by men and despised by the people.
7All who see me mock me; they hurl insults, shaking their heads:
8‘He trusts in the LORD; let the LORD rescue him.
Let him (God) deliver him (Jesus), since he (God) delights in him (Jesus).’”

  What Jesus knew – even while enduring excruciating pain and the people’s derisive comments – and this was foretold!  As you read the following…Jesus is speaking to God His Father.
(NIV) Psalm 22:9-10 “Yet you brought me out of the womb; you made me trust in you even at my mother’s breast.
10From birth I was cast upon you; from my mother’s womb you have been my God.”

  And Isaiah, what did he prophesy?
(NASB) Isaiah 53:3 “He was despised and forsaken of men,
A man of sorrows and acquainted with grief;
And like one from whom men hide their face
He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.”

  According to Isaiah, what was Messiah Jesus doing when He died on the cross?
(NASB) Isaiah 53:4-5 “Surely our griefs He Himself bore,
And our sorrows He carried;
Yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken,
Smitten of God, and afflicted.
5 But He was pierced through for our transgressions,
He was crushed for our iniquities;
The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him,
And by His scourging we are healed.”

  What are you and I like and what has Jesus done for us?
(NIV) Isaiah 53:6 “We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.”

Rejecting these truths is the unforgiveable sin.
Receiving these truths assures you of Jesus as your Savior and heaven.
