Jesus was dying on the cross.  Scripture gives a vignette of what was going on below Him.  Roman soldiers gambling for His clothing (fulfilling Scripture: Psalm 22:18)
  People were standing around watching Him die.
  Jewish rulers standing at the foot of the cross and talking to the people:
(NASB) Luke 23:35 “And the people stood by, looking on.  And even the rulers were sneering at Him, saying, ‘He saved others; let Him save Himself if this is the Christ of God, His Chosen One.”

  Those words, those attitudes, were prophesied and were fulfilled – there at the foot of the cross of Jesus.
(NASB) Psalm 22:6-8 “But I am a worm and not a man,
A reproach of men and despised by the people.
7 All who see me sneer at me;
They separate with the lip, they wag the head, saying,
8 Commit yourself to the LORD; let Him deliver him;
Let Him rescue him, because He delights in him.”

  What is amazing about the enemies of Jesus as they scorned Him as He died on that cross?
  Prophetic Scripture was again being fulfilled.  And Jesus was dying for them!

  Jesus’ real work on that cross was for me and for you and those very men who scorned Him.  What does God say?
(NASB) Isaiah 53:11 “As the result of the anguish of His soul,
He will see it and be satisfied;
By His knowledge the Righteous One,
My Servant, will justify the many,
As He will bear their iniquities.”

  Jesus took their sins (and yours and mine) on Himself as if they were His sins…He justified us.  “For God so loved the world” (that’s you and me!)…
(NASB) Acts 4:12 “And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.”

  What does anyone need to do to receive such a great salvation?
(NASB) Romans 10:8-11 “But what does it say?  ‘THE WORD IS NEAR YOU, in your mouth and in your heart’ – that is, the word of faith which we are preaching,
9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;
10 for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.
11 For the Scripture says, ‘WHOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.’”
